Let me take you back to a simpler time. Imagine it's 2016: Boris is Major of London, Trump has bizarrely announced he thinks he can be president of the US and Brexit just sounds like some weird pitch for a breakfast cereal. Video Copilot has just released the amazing Sabre plug in but projection mapping a shoe still feels like a pretty dated idea, that cool people were doing 4/5 years ago.

    Hi, amazing project! I'm trying to make "this kind" with some friends from my Art School. A mapping and a sound playing when a bouton is pressed (I guess your project is done on this model). Our idea is pretty similar with yours. But we have no idea to make it work! We were thinking about using TouchDesigner for the mapping and Makeymakey, but we don't kow how to make the link between them! If you can help us thank you :)

    • @vjfit
      @vjfit 5 років тому

      Hi Céline , I've not used TouchDesigner so I really can't be much help for you on that. Setting up the MakeyMakey to control Resolume is super easy though, it just comes in as a keyboard button, which can trigger a clip no problem. Have you seen this video to explain how I achieved the projection mapping [and some cool audio-response tips too] ua-cam.com/video/8PNp4xnWPUI/v-deo.html&

      @@vjfit I want to achieve something I've seen a few bands do live in concert. They will have a camera pointed at each band member. They will project those cameras onto a big projector behind them. They will cycle through each camera and have various fx on them real time. It makes for a really cool effect

    Is there a way to make the boxes work as one? Like if you place a single video to follow the shape of the boxes? Here is an example but in a different software ua-cam.com/video/AQxFZygkbSc/v-deo.html around the 8th min.

    • @vjfit
      @vjfit 6 років тому

      In this video the boxes are working "as one", I have 1 video clip that is spreading across the structure. I think my 4th tutorial covers the topic of "individual" mapping vs "complete" mapping best.

    Hey Tom, I was hoping you could help me here. I want to learn how to take a photo of a stage, run after effects to make a layer so that I have a custom shaped map of the stage. I don’t know what’s it’s called and I’m having a rough time trying to figure it out, any suggestions?

    • @vjfit
      @vjfit 6 років тому

      Hi Rick, Have you watch the 3rd video of this series? That might cover what you're aiming for with that. Also the newer versions of Resolume comes with the option to export your masks so that is a big help with this kind of thing. Hope that helps you out.

    Thanks for the tutorial!!! Is there a software that would actually preview what the projector is seeing so mapping would be easier. If not a life preview, would it be possible to take a pic of what we are trying to project on?

    • @vjfit
      @vjfit 6 років тому

      Cheers Nikolay. Have you seen my 3rd tutorial? I talk about that kind of stuff in there. Also, the latest version of Resolume has better options for taking screen grabs build right in!

    • @NStoyanov

      Thanks you so much for the fast response!! I just got my time around making my first projection mapping. Nothing fancy, just getting to know the software v6. Watched all the tutorials now (awesome!!!)and I was wondering, if you can point me in the right direction: lets say there is a ball in an empty room with let's say 3 projectors around it. Is there a way to have them all 3 projectors sync in so all sides of the ball are covered and matching the movement?

    • @vjfit
      @vjfit 6 років тому

      Hi, Yes you can use 3 projectors to project all the way around an object. You need a graphics card with multiple output or something like a triplehead2go. I've not done a complete 360 degree set up myself so you'd have to figure out the details.

    These questions might sound stupid but I'm a complete beginner: 1. How can your projector exclusively show your animation output without the rest of the editing screen included? (for example when I plug a HDMI cable to my projector it obviously only shows what's on screen.) 2. Are two laptops somehow required to pull this off? ^ 3. Is a camera to line up the mapping 100% necessary? Good video anyway.

    • @vjfit
      @vjfit 7 років тому

      Hi Gallagator. All you need for this is 1 laptop and 1 projector [no camera is required]. When you plug the projector in you should have 4 options to output if you press Windows+P. Sounds like you might be DUPLICATING your desktop instead of EXTENDING it [not sure about Mac, have to google that up yourself if that is relevant to you]. There are also options inside Resolume under the Output drop down. You want to have Full Screen set to Display 2 I think. Hope that help you get up and running.

    Yeah man, very cool, I tough it was a kinect at work in resolume, not tried midi conversion stuff yet , u say its bollox then? lol here I use vvvv type coding stuff through spout with kinect, I think its reliable even if pain to calibrate once done it works, move install to setup in club not really possible yet unless u have acces to club for several hours before show.

      Hey Alvin. Yeh it is a Leap Motion using the Geco app to convert to MIDI. I got it over a year ago and it seemed to work very well at first but after my computer having a bit of a mental breakdown it's been very jittery. Doubt I'll do a tutorial as it's just a bit frustrating and unreliable now.
